The Perfect Unique U.S. Winter Getaways For Valentine’s Day by Priscilla December 26, 2022 written by Priscilla Winter in Alaska, photo by Priscilla Are you searching for the perfect unique U.S. winter getaway for Valentine’s Day? February 14th is quickly approaching and will be here before you know it! If you are trying to find romantic locations without a ton of people, this list is for you. These areas are a fantastic option for couples who want to relax, have an adventure, or both. The best thing about the U.S. in the winter is that there are places for everyone. Head north for colder temperatures filled with snow, hot springs, and northern lights. Go south or west for some warmer desert locations with views of the milky way that are out of this world. However, each area is filled with a selection of hot springs that are guaranteed to keep things heated. Here are some of the perfect unique U.S. winter getaways for Valentine’s Day. Joshua Tree National Park, California Milky Way over Joshua Tree NP, photo by Priscilla Joshua Tree national park is gorgeous and secluded. There are a ton of Airbnb’s offer unique accommodations to match the quirky atmosphere of the desert. If Airbnb’s aren’t your thing, there are plenty of campsites and hotels in the surrounding areas as well. Even though Valentine’s Day is still technically winter, it’s very warm during the day. It does get a little chilly during the evening and night, so be sure to pack something warm. Spend the slow morning relaxing, sipping coffee or mimosas. Later, you go for a walk or hike and enjoy the beautiful scenery and picturesque landscape. Nighttime is where the fun begins, however. Joshua Tree is in a dark zone, which means you have clear views of the milky way and stars. Be sure to bring some blankets that can get a little dusty, some wine, and maybe some pillows to lay on and watch and sky. There are loads of meteors and fireballs to be seen, and makes the perfect setting for a romantic vacation. Fairbanks, AK Aurora over Fairbanks, Photo by Priscilla If you’re searching for a winter escape, look no further. Fairbanks is a beautiful quaint city packed with activities perfect for couples. It offers plenty of restaurants and has its own international airport, so don’t worry about driving far in the snow. During the winter months, there is very little daylight because of its geographical location. The sun rises at about 10 am and sets around 3 pm, but with that comes lots of visibility of the northern lights. The best romantic place to stay is Chena Hot Springs. The hot springs are 106 degrees F year-round and provide wide open visibility of the sky. Stay warm in the hot springs while viewing the epic show of the Aurora Borealis. You can choose from a different variety of rooms. Some rooms offer their own patio with private soaking pools high in the cliffs. The private cottages have a front porch and also back up to hiking trails. Ojo Caliente has several soaking pools, each with different healing properties to suit your needs. The resort also offers spa and yoga services by appointment. A second location is in Santa Fe, but I think this location is more romantic and secluded. Yes, this magnificent place is right on top of a huge waterfall! I give this location five stars for numerous reasons, although it is expensive. This lodge and spa are top notch in service, location, and amenities. It features two mineral soaking pools, a sauna and steam room, and multiple massage rooms. Don’t miss out. Book yourself a private couples massage and experience total luxury. Its restaurant has splendid mixed drinks and tables where you can look out over the waterfall and view the North Cascade mountains while surrounded by a lush forest of evergreen and spruce trees. The cute town of Snoqualmie is only a short distance away and surrounded by hundreds of hiking trails. Colorado Ice Castles in Dillon, CO Manitou Springs is a hidden gem and an absolute must! This perfect little town is filled with activities for couples and central to other locations for those who want an adventure! Manitou Springs is located south of Denver and right by Colorado Springs. The SunWater Spa is exceptional and located minutes from Garden of the Gods. This Spa is perfect for couples who want to practice healing arts and want to soak in the mineral water cedar hot tubs that overlook the Rocky Mountains. It costs $40 for an hour and a half, and reservations are required. Aside from the spa are numerous winter activities perfect for couples. Colorado offers some of the best skiing and snowboarding locations, so book a lesson on Groupon and don’t look back. Just south of here is Sand Dunes National Park, and north is Rocky Mountain National Park. The Red Rocks Theater is one of the world’s most acoustically sound music venues, so be sure to get some tickets for a fantastic show! Located to the west is the Ice Castles in Dillon, CO. These ice castles are man-made but don’t let that fool you; they are something to behold.
